Homework is an integral part of a child’s education that is used to assess student progress, reinforce learned material, and expand skills. It is a valued component of our classroom that supports academic growth. Good homework habits lead to better study skills, responsibility, and self-discipline. In addition, homework helps to prepare students for upcoming lessons and tests. All short and long-term assignments are written on the board each day and posted to the class website. Homework should be done by the child in a quiet area with all the resources necessary for success. Be there as a support or guide for your child, but allow him/her to work as independently as possible. In addition, students are required to read for at least 15 minutes each night, and keep a reading log. The material that your child chooses should reflect an appropriate reading level. Engaging your child in a discussion about books and making reading a priority will go a long way towards making reading a positive experience! Demonstrate your enthusiasm for homework and how much you value your child's hard work. It will pay off with a lifetime of great work habits!
