Blog #8: Compare and Contrast

The Wave, by Todd Strasser, is a non-fiction novel that tells the true story of events in a Palo Alto, California classroom in 1969. Told through a third-person omniscient narrative, the plot centers around a high school teacher's experimental attempts to teach the dangers of following a group blindly, the role of power, and the responsibilities of individuals. Reflect on the events of the novel and compare and contrast Laurie’s and David’s reactions to The Wave, the events that they become involved in, what they view as positive and negative about The Wave, and how they change. Be sure to highlight strong character comparisons. You must include a strong topic sentence, supporting details, quotes from the novel, and a strong concluding sentence. Proofread carefully for grammar and spelling. Be sure to use signal words to compare elements, such as "Both," "Similarly," "Likewise," and "In the same manner." Use signal words to contrast elements, such as ""Conversely," "Despite," "However," "On the other hand," "Although," "On the contrary," "In contrast," "Even though," and "Whereas."
